Eric Spanner《童年往事》
我向來脾氣差，活了快二十六年，發洩機會多不勝數。
一九八八年四月十六日星期六，我念的小學長週，並為包括五年級在內的同學舉行數學比賽。當時我數學成績不錯，被選為其中一名班代表。那天早會，我在隊尾跟一兩個男同學聊天，結果被風紀發現，命到操場後罰站。我落單，愈覺不忿，然後高速衝至操場的另一邊，向班主任叫道：「妳出賣我！」
其邏輯如此：我被罰令班代表以至全班尊嚴盡喪，班主任要不是不知其事，就是故意讓學生出醜。我想事情多從壞處想，結果口出狂言，「直斥其非」。
身邊的老師很快平伏我的情緒，接著上課、參賽、回家。那天爸爸生日，在家休息。當他起床後，家中只有我和他；想他之前已被學校打來的電話吵醒，不然他不會責罵，和找乒乓球板痛打我的大腿。我試圖討價還價，他卻執意要打，還要記下未打的幾下。
兩條大腿紅腫難免，但總會消褪：多虧記住此事，另加每次小學同學聚會時都有人提起，故記憶猶新。差點忘了說，那一次的數學比賽，我奪得亞軍。
